Security Guard Arrest Authority in California

A California security guard does not gain unrestricted arrest powers through a uniform, registration, or private contract. The relevant concept is generally a private person’s arrest, commonly called citizen arrest. That authority is conditional. Understanding the conditions and their limits is more useful than a simple claim that guards either have no arrest authority or can arrest anyone who violates a property rule.
